Thanks for the book recommendation and I have one for you….”Between Two Kingdoms,” by Suleika Jaouad, who you may be aware of since she has a Substack account. It’s the story of a young woman devastated by a leukemia diagnosis at the tender age of 22. What this girl went through is so heartbreaking to read about, but, yes, resilience, she learned it and lived it. I’m about three-quarters through the book, where she has entered remission and is working to figure out her life afterward. I wondered about the title, only to find that it’s a line from Susan Sontag, who wrote that we all live in either the kingdom of ill or the kingdom of well. At some point, we experience both. I had a hospitalization that lasted 17 days, for what should have been a routine gall bladder removal, but became more complicated. To this day, I consider it a spiritual experience, and I remember every detail of it, even though it’s been more than a decade. But that pales in comparison to what Suleika has been through. I think you’d identify with the book. I enjoy your posts, Linda. I don’t think you’ve ever betrayed the basic moral core that you’ve always had, and that’s my goal, too. God bless, Rick Howell.
