“Don’t push.” The obstetrician sounded adamant. “That’s absurd,” I thought. Everything in my body wanted to push my baby out into the world. Trying to hold back on the urge to push him out of my body and on into his actual air breathing real life existence made no sense. I tried to obey the obstetrician’s instructions but more out of a fear of hurting my baby than simple compliance. Eventually, out he came; out into the land of the living.
Interesting that you kept going or pushing because it was God's plan. I can see how that belief system can be abusive, but also motivating. Just because you "can" do something doesn't mean that you should. Trying to be perfect is harmful because they're is no such thing. I wonder if the biblical quote, "Be perfect as the Heavenly Father is perfect," influenced you to drive yourself as well.
It is interesting. I ended up thinking that God helped me do it because he knew it meant so much to me. Now I'm content with not knowing what to think about it all, but being fine with the mystery of it. The perfectionism has always been a part of who I am, as if I had to make up for all my screw ups from the past. I'm not sorry I did what I did. I'm thankful.
You are truly amazing! You have succeeded in fulfilling your purpose despite the overwhelming odds stacked against you. Reading with just one eye is a remarkable feat by itself, let alone all the other physical struggles that you have had to overcome. I think most people would have given up. But I put you up there as an inspiration of persistence above Bethany Hamilton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bethany_Hamilton and Joni Eareckson Tada. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joni_Eareckson_Tada
Do you also know how to write a screenplay? Because your life story needs to be a movie. I'm serious.
