It’s fascinating how we therapists come to be. We’ve been through so much and know that there is so much yet to learn, that no one can learn it all in a lifetime. What a roller coaster we ride, and that’s if we’re fortunate to survive and share our stories with others. Thank you for showing us how to continue to learn and grow.
You too, and you are so right...so may "wounded healers" lighting the path. When I first began doing counseling, I was under the impression that I "knew" the way out (because I had done it!) but soon realized that what worked for me was because of who I was and what will work for others may be different. And I also thought it was a "one and done" kind of thing...you heal and then you are no longer needing help. Wow...I now realize that we all may take a lifetime (including me). It's actually a relief.
Wow, you've been through so much. Although you haven't gone into all the detail here, l have a glimmer of what recovery from that surgery must have been like. My daughter was critically injured in an accident 4 years ago and had to learn to walk again - she spent months in the hospital with her many injuries and even now continues to work on getting stronger. I'm glad you're telling your story! When my daughter was in the hospital, we were always searching for books or stories of people who had been through tremendous difficulties - she wanted to read about their recoveries. I'm going to listen to the interview too, as soon as l get a chance! (I'm on spring break with my grandchildren this week.)
Constance! That must have been extremely stressful! I'm so happy to hear that she is recovering! I still find books that are about people who overcome tragedies and trauma. It helps me continue to have hope for my own life and hold hope for others. The video goes into a lot of more detail. Have a great week with the grandchildren! I have many but they are spread all over the US.
Thanks for sharing your story with me. I know there will be a movie someday of your life!
Can I get Merle Streep to play me? LOL
She would be the perfect choice!
Yes! My mother reminded me of her.
What a story! My complaints feel so petty now.
We all have every right to our own complaints. 🥰
No words to do your experience justice, so I'll just say I'm thankful for your life and thank you for sharing your story.
Thanks, Florence! I think you're pretty amazing as well!
